Asin
Asin Thottumkal,
her story, her huge success in the south Indian film industry, is as
brilliant as it is mind boggling. She has made a decision to move onwards
and to conquer the skies instead of becoming just yet another ‘pretty
face’ and spend her life without much attitude and targets.
Asin was born on October 26, 1985 in Kochi to Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Celine
Joseph. She is some one who can get along well with any kinds o people.
She is a native of Kerala state and obviously her mother tongue is
Malayalam, but that is not the only language she speaks. She can easily
handle multiple languages like Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English, Sanskrit and
even French. She loved acting and modeling ever since she was a child. As
a child, her parents saw enormous potential in her for she was talented
and pretty.

Her
parents were very supportive and before long she was into modeling. For a
short span of time, she even tried to do a business with her father at the
age of 14!
Asin studied literature in St. Teresa’s college, Kochi. During this time
she made her entrance to Malayalam movies and made several cameo
appearances. These include movies like “Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka”.
She has also done modeling and appeared in several television shows. Soon
she realized that staying in Kerala is not going to help her much. She was
desperate; she wanted to follow her dream of being a big actress.
Later Asin signed several Telungu movies. It was the dawn of a new
brighter day for her and it was like the Telungu movie industry was
waiting for someone like her to come. And when she was finally there, they
received her the best way they can. It was her destiny and the rest is
history. She single-handedly went on to become one of the most valued
stars of the industry. |

Her first Telugu movie came
out in 2003; it was called “Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi”. That’s too much
for a name but the movie was not a big hit but she scored a Filmfare best
actress award for this one. It was her second movie called “Shivamani
9848022338”- which really put her under the spotlight.
From that point she never had to look back. In the year 2005 she had her
biggest hit in the form of “Ghajini” a Tamil movie which was also one of
the biggest south hits that year.
So far Asin has played opposite to some of the biggest boys of the
industry. Surya, Vijay, Vikram, Ajith- you name it she has got it in her
book.
Currently she is a national level model and she endorses brands like
Fairever, Colgate and Mirinda (the drink). Recently she was dropped out
from several projects because of her tight schedule. Yes, she is running
busy while her movies are running full in theaters across the country.
That’s a position every actresses dream about.
Her new movie ‘Vel’ is in production and is expected to release in 2007.
In 2008 you’ll see her in the Hindi remake of the movie ‘Ghajini’.
